The Independent national Electoral Commission, INEC has announced the commencement of the recall process of Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye from the National Assembly.
The disclosure was made by the posting of time table of events lined up to verify the signatures submitted by the constituents.
It will be recalled that the Kogi West Senatorial District electorate matched and submitted signatures numbering about 188,000 to the electoral body with a motive to have the incumbent lawmaker replaced.
It was gathered that the electorate declared that the senator rather than represent their interests at the Senate is living a lavish lifestyle.
After receiving the signatures, contained in 6 big traveling bags, the electoral commission wrote to notify of the senator of the move to commence the process.
The statement released by INEC stated that the process will commence on July 10th and run through to August 19th when the final result of the outcome of the process will be revealed.
The statement reads, “In exercise of the powers conferred on the Independent National Electoral Commission (“the Commission”) by Sections 69 and 110 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended); Section 116 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Commission hereby issues this timetable and schedule of activities for the recall of the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Kogi State”.
