The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted a widely circulated social media message claiming that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on May 27, 2025.

Reacting to the viral post on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, clarified that the Commission has not fixed any date for the resumption of CVR or other related services, such as the transfer and replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that it has not yet announced any date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Transfer and Replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs),” Oyekanmi stated.

He described the circulating message as fake and urged Nigerians to disregard the misinformation.

“In line with its tradition, the Commission will publicly announce the date for the resumption of the CVR at the appropriate time. The full details of the exercise will also be shared via our official social media platforms,” he added.

The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the resumption of voter registration ahead of future elections, including the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s statement aims to reassure citizens that credible and timely information regarding electoral processes will only come from official sources.

The Commission also reiterated its commitment to transparency and public engagement and advised Nigerians to rely solely on its verified communication channels for updates.
