The Adamuorisa Cult group seems to be angry with the producers of the new movies ‘Gangs of Lagos’ for linking the Eyo Adamu Orisha Festival with crime in the aforementioned movie.

In a statement by Chief Adebola Olalekan Dosunmu issued on Wednesday the group noted that Eyo Adamu Orisha Festival is a revered cultural symbol and tradition of the good people of Lagos and at no time in the history of Eyo Adamu Orisha festival which is dated back to 1854 was the Eyo Adamu Orisha engaged in any act of gangstanism, hooliganism or any form of criminal activities that the film (Gang of Lagos) mischievously portrays it to be.

The statement read in part: “DEMEANING OF THE CULTURE AND TRADITION OF LAGOS BY THE PRODUCER OF THE FILM TITLED “GANG OF LAGOS”

“The attention of the elders of Awe Adamu Orisha has been drawn to a newly released film titled “GANG OF LAGOS” produced and directed by Adesegun Adetoro, Jade Osiberu and others, wherein the Eyo Adamu Orisha play was used and portrayed as criminals, gangsters and people of questionable characters.

“We like to correct the misrepresentation of the Producer of the “GANG OF LAGOS” film that the Eyo Adamu Orisha Festival is a revered cultural symbol and tradition of the good people of Lagos and at no time in the history of Eyo Adamu Orisha festival which is dated back to 1854 was the Eyo Adamu Orisha engaged in any act of gangstanism, hooliganism or any form of criminal activities that the film (Gang of Lagos) mischievously portrays it to be.

“The Eyo Adamu Orisha festival usually held to accompany the soul of the departed reputable sons and daughters of Lagos State.”
