The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) confirmed on Sunday, June 2, that their planned indefinite strike over the new minimum wage will proceed as scheduled.
The organized labour said its decision stands despite last-minute efforts by the National Assembly leadership to prevent a potential economic shutdown by the unions.
In response to the indefinite strike declared by organized labor, aviation unions have instructed their members to cease services across Nigerian airports. As a result, all entry points to domestic airports in Lagos are currently inaccessible, leaving passengers stranded due to the ongoing labor strike, which has led to the suspension of all flight operations.
Furthermore, The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, says the “labour union has shut down” the national grid, resulting in a blackout nationwide. The national grid shutdown occurred at about 2.19 am on 3rd June, 2024.
