The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement to address and clarify misinformation circulating on social media concerning an incident involving a Corps member in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.
According to the Police, the incident in question occurred in 2015 and has been greatly misrepresented.
It involved a female student who allegedly wrote something during a test that the Corps member found insulting.
In response, the Corps member decided to administer a punishment by asking the student to crawl on her knees, resulting in injuries.
The student’s family subsequently reported the matter to the Police. The Area Commander in charge at the time exercised discretion and temporarily detained the Corps member.
Following intervention by the Commissioner of Police, the Corps member was released, and the issue was resolved amicably with no further escalation.
The Police also clarified that the picture currently circulating alongside the news on social media is unrelated to the individuals or events involved in the incident.
They emphasized that it is being used to sensationalize and mislead the public.
The Nigeria Police Force urged the public, particularly stakeholders like the NYSC body, to disregard the false information being spread in the media, as it bears no relation to the actual events.
They also cautioned against the spread of falsehoods aimed at discrediting the government and Nigerian institutions, emphasizing that such actions are not only unpatriotic but also illegal under the law.
