In France’s latest election, Marine Le Pen has made a strong comeback, setting the stage for a major face-off against President Emmanuel Macron.
Marine Le Pen declared her party had “practically wiped out” Emmanuel Macron after winning the first round of voting in the French election
This morning France’s Interior Ministry released its percentages for the first round of voting.
As reported by CNN The initial estimates by the Polling Institute put the far-right alliance, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN), in first with 34 percent of the vote, ahead of the left-wing alliance in second with 28.1 percent, while Macron’s party trails in a distant third with 20.3 percent.
Le Pen’s success was seen as a backlash against Macron’s policies, particularly amid concerns over immigration and sovereignty.
Further, the projections suggested that after the second round of voting next Sunday, the RN would win between 230 and 280 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, falling short of the 289 required for an absolute majority.
Projections based on exit polls show an absolute majority is within reach for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally.
That would force Emmanuel Macron, the French president, into appointing the first democratically elected far-right government in France’s modern history.
Regardless of the election’s outcome, Macron has committed to serving until the next presidential election in 2027.
The electoral process involves two rounds: the current first round, which narrows down the field, and a subsequent round where candidates compete for the majority needed to secure parliamentary seats.
Candidates must secure more than 12.5 percent of the vote to advance to the second round, where outcomes are decided.
