He Was On Illegal Duty, Not A Fake Officer – Police Speak On MOPOL Who Shot Opeyemi Bamidele

 

Ekiti State Police Command has confirm that the policeman who shot former lawmaker, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele on Friday was not a fake officer but he was just on illegal duty.

Spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, Caleb Ikechukwu while speaking on Channels Television late Friday made this known as he also confirmed that the Command is investigating the matter.

He said, “He’s not a fake policeman, he’s our officer but he was on illegal duty in Ekiti State.

“He was an officer posted as Guard at a Bank in Ikeja, Lagos State but he illegally escorted a Politician to Ekiti State on illegal duty.

“The Politician came from Lagos to attend the rally. The politician has also been quizzed as the matter is been investigated.

It will be recalled that incident of sporadic gunshots were reported at the Ekiti State Secretariat of the APC during the welcoming of it’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr John Kayode Fayemi on Friday. Several people, including Hon Opeyemi Bamidele were hit by bullets reported to be fired from the rifle of a Mobile Police Officer who was said to be attached to the convoy of VIPs present at the event.

After the incident, it was reported in the media that the Police officer was a decoy sent to assassinate the former Governor, Fayemi, who is also preparing for the next governorship election in the State. The unnamed officer was then lynched by supporters who were at the secretariat. The Officer has since been confirmed as real security agent.
