The lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Babajimi Benson, has been appointed to the All Progressives Congress National Convention Committee as Lagos State’s representative.
The appointment has drawn attention among party members across Lagos and other states.
Benson’s name appeared on the 73 member committee list released by the APC ahead of its 2026 national convention. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as chairman. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq is vice chairman. Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni will act as secretary.
The committee will oversee planning, coordination, and execution of the ruling party’s national convention.
Supporters of the Ikorodu lawmaker described the appointment as recognition of his influence within the party. Many party members see the move as a boost for Lagos East, with particular focus on Ikorodu’s rising profile in national party affairs.
Benson is a three term member of the House of Representatives and currently chairs the House Committee on Defence. Party insiders point to his legislative experience and leadership roles as factors behind the decision.
The APC convention committee includes serving and former governors, lawmakers, and senior party leaders from across the country.
Benson’s inclusion places him among key figures expected to influence decisions and outcomes at the convention.
