Ikorodu North Chairman, Banjo Adebisi To Read To Primary School Pupils In Yoruba

In line with the Lagos state policy that every Wednesday should be Yoruba speaking day in schools across the state, the Ikorodu North Local Government has announced that it would be leading in this light by using its key officials to read Yoruba text books to student representatives of the 14 schools in the Local Community Development Areas of the division in company of the Guinness World Record title holder in Longest reading Marathon, Bayode Olawunmi-Treasures.

 

 

According to the Local Government Chairman, – Banjo Adeola Adebisi, he would lead the team tomorrow Wednesday 23rd 2019 by reading the the Apa Ikinni of the book titled “Osupa” while Bayode we would be reading Apa Keji and the author of the book would be reading Apa Keta to the pupils.

 

The LGA boss while urging other parts of the state to key into this lofty initiative, he  also assured that this latest development is part of his administrations contribution to promoting the cultural values of the people and community.

 

“This is part of our contribution to the preservation of our culture and our language. It is saddening that most of us can’t even read Yoruba textbooks not to talk of speaking Yoruba fluently.”

 

“This I think if sustained all through the state would go a long way to catch the younger generation young in Yoruba reading and speaking so as not to entirely lose our language.” He explained.

 

One will recall that on the 7th of  March 2018, the Lagos State Government declared Wednesdays Yoruba Speaking Day that will involve all lessons taught in Yoruba language with the inclusion of Private schools and Public schools within the state.
