By Following the incessant killings in the Ikorodu area, the residents of Odogunyan community of Ikorodu have trooped out to protest and also call for the dethronement of their traditional ruler, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi.
It was gathered from a source within the area that the assailants, who have a trade mark of using grinding stone are working for “leaders; traditional and political.” The source also claimed that the suspected killers are paid to do the killing.
The protest came after another near wipe-out of a family of five. Three of them were killed, one is missing and the other, a four year old is battling for his life. The residents, which can be seen carrying placards, call for a “thorough investigation” into the killings.
Lagos State Police Command spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who said the incident was being investigated, declined to comment on steps the command is taking to tame future attacks.
It will be recalled that in recent times, Ikorodu town has become a killing field where an entire family is wiped out in one fell swoop in the middle of the night in what residents have described as ritual killings. It is also on record that accusing fingers have pointed at the traditional institution as the killers are known not to have taken any property after popping out their victims’ brains with a grinding stone.
In the most recent attack, those that were killed included David Ikehi, his wife, Priscilla and son Moses. The family’s four-year-old boy Sunday is battling for his life in hospital while their two-year-old son is reportedly missing.
