Ikorodu Division Youths Mobilise To Achieve Socio-Economic Inclusiveness

Considering the pressing need to change the orientation of youths in Ikorodu Division towards social-economic development in the division, youths under the aegis of  Ikorodu Division Youth Movement and supported by Centre for Posterity Nigeria (CFPNG) are staging the 1st Ikorodu Youth Summit.

The event with the theme; PROMOTING YOUTH PARTICIPATION AND INCLUSIVENESS IN COMMUNIT, is billed to take place on October 1, 2018, at the Ikorodu Town Hall, aim to create opportunity for physical interaction amongst not less than 500 Youth within the division.

Considering the rate of social vices such as cultism, hooliganism, insecurity cum socio-political backwardness youth of the division have witnessed in recent time, the summit aims to be the largest convergence of youths in the division to proffer workable solutions to the mirage of problems hampering  youths development in the division.

According to the one of the organizers, Comrade. Samson Bisiriyu, the summit will be an avenue for career networking and inclusion in community development and governance in Ikorodu because of the calibre of people that would be invited to engage with the youths.

“Our mission is clear. To be additional Youth Mobilizers in Ikorodu Division; to create networking platforms, and building the bridge between the traditional rulers, Ikorodu Division stakeholders, political actors, the business icons and the youths across the division; to be an advocacy group for job opportunity, youth employment, political inclusiveness; and to re-orientate the youth of the division on life development.”

The summit also have has its missions to address issues of moral vices and support eradication of youth violence within Ikorodu Division; and to promote the economic, social and cultural uniqueness of the division by showcasing its potentials to the world.

In discussions with BlackBox Nigeria, one of the proponent of the summit highlighted that Ikorodu Division which is one of the five (5) divisions called IBILE in Lagos State that is Ikeja, Badagry,  Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe, has been relegated in the governance structure of the state.

“In a bid to address these challenge, there is an urgent need for the youth of this great division to take responsibility.  To this effect there is a pressing need for the youth to come together in a place where way forward can be discussed and a roadmap to mitigate and correct these anomalies are formulated and executed so as to restore the lost glory of this prestigious division.”

Ikorodu Division comprises of all the Communities located in the 6 LCDA; Ikorodu Local Government/Central, Ikorodu West Local Council Development, Ikorodu North Local Council Development, Imota Local Council Development Area, Igbogbo /Bayeiku Local Council Development Area, and Ijede Local Council Development Area.

Amongst top dignitaries expected to grace the summit are the former Special Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit (BMPIU) and Chairman of the Day, Prof Kunle Wahab OON CON,Hon Agboola Dabiri,  Commissioner of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State, Pastor (Mrs) Debola McPrince, Mr. Jimi Aina, Board Secretary, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Political Science, Lagos State University, amongst others. While Chief Olatunji Odesaya will be Father of the day.

The proponents of the summit where instrumental in the effort to mobilize residents to collect their permanent voters card recently and also calling on INEC for decentralization of PVC registration / collection of PVC.

It is believed that after the October 1st gathering, youth should have fostered understanding amongst themselves to creatively engaged the polity to bring socio-economic development to Ikorodu Division.
