Nigeria National League debutant, Ikorodu City FC, on Saturday, kicked off their campaign with a goalless draw against Giant Brilla FC at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The Abiodun Obafemi-led team could not break the reins of Giant Brilla as both teams endured a frustrating first-half which recorded just a few created chances.
Worthy of mention was a goal scoring opportunity presented by Giant Brilla’s goalkeeper to Salami Farouk. The Ikorodu City teenage striker however failed to capitalize on the situation as his shot was blocked. The youngster would later create the best chance of the match after another shot from him rattled and cannoned off the woodwork.
According to the club’s official website, the home team had better chances in the second half which they failed to capitalize on due to poor finishing.
However, the home team nearly paid the price of their wastefulness as Giant Brilla came close to goal following a beautiful build-up. Unfortunately, their effort hit the woodwork, forcing the Ikorodu City gaffer to make some tactical substitutions.
Issah Saheed and Ogoh Stanley came on to replace Damola Oluwa and Olubode Hassan in an attempt to bolster Ikorodu City’s attacking threat.
Eventually, both teams had to share the spoil despite the additional five minutes to the game.
