The Ikorodu Chess Club has announced the winners of its keenly contested Nigeria At 62 Independence Day Competition.
The competition held in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence anniversary held 26 participants squaring up against each other through three stages to pick the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
Announcing the winners of the competition held virtual on Chess global ranking platform, Lichess, the Founder/Chief Instructor of the Club, Faruq Mojeed-Sanni, said he is delighted by the outcome of the competition majorly because it signifies celebration of greatness of the Nigerian youth on the country’s 62nd anniversary.
The winners are Joshua Ononuju who won the 1st position went home with N15,000, followed by Afolabi Oluwoga, 2nd position with N7,000 and Belema Ibitamuno who came 3rd winning N5,000.
The Organiser have promised to organize more competitive tournaments to stimulate the interest of young people in the Chess game in Ikorodu, Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
