Yesterday, the Ijede Local Council Development Area under the leadership of Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba made true the oft-cited saying of killing two birds with one stone as the council boss distributed free JAMB/ UTME forms and food staples to members of the community at the council secretariat.
According to the Executive Chairman, the distribution of the UTME forms was part of the efforts of Ijede LCDA to help indigent residents attain their academic aspirations, saying the promotion of education among young people is the responsibility of any responsible government.
Speaking further, Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba stated that the Ijede Tunrayo Ayo ni temi food support program was launched last year with the promise that her administration will continue to support the people with food palliative.
In her words, “Today begins the first phase of the program by distributing food bags containing different food items that will add palliative support to the nutrition of people within the community that are less privileged. She hopes this will go a long way to cushion the effect of the economic challenges that we face as a nation.
“And secondly, like you all know that our administration knows the importance of education and I have promised to support education at all levels. We are giving out JAMB forms to brilliant and indigent students to support and also motivate them to study up to the university level. I hope and pray that they all do exceedingly well in the exams, proceed to university to pursue their dreams and become worthy ambassadors of their communities, Lagos and the nation as a whole.”
The council boss also assured the people of Ijede LCDA that the ongoing renovation of the public library in Ijede would soon be completed and available for public use.
“It is my sincere hope that this gesture will revive the reading culture among our youths. Therefore I want to inform all wards and especially the students present here with us today to make themselves available for the effective use of the facility and take proper care of it as it is a legacy from the founding fathers to encourage and build sound minds,” she added.
“Finally, I will use this opportunity to crave the continued support of our Kabiyesis, Chiefs, CDAs, religious leaders, stakeholders and everyone as we continue to impact our people.”
