“I Won’t Join Criminal Cartels”— Sowore Rejects Invitation to Join Opposition Coalition

Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate, has launched a poweful attack on Nigeria’s top political figures, rejecting any suggestion of joining the emerging opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.

He declared that he would never align with what he described as a cabal of looters, tyrants, and betrayers of the Nigerian people.

In a strongly worded post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, Sowore listed a number of high-profile politicians including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and several others, accusing them of various acts of criminality and national sabotage.

“I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago. I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry,” he wrote.

He continued with similar criticisms targeting former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and others, linking each to historic grievances, alleged human rights violations, or economic mismanagement.

“I did not join David Mark when he stole funds meant to fix our telephones and later helped to crush our democratic hopes on June 12,” Sowore wrote.

“I have never joined an armed robbery gang. I have never pledged allegiance to any cult gang—no matter how popular, powerful, or fanciful.”

Sowore’s message, laced with revolutionary rhetoric, appeared to be a preemptive response to recent criticisms of his political activism and his role in the country’s opposition space.

Declaring his loyalty solely to the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced, Sowore emphasized that he would only align with those committed to dismantling the political structure that he believes has enslaved Nigerians for decades.

“Let it be known: I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of the Nigerian people and Africans,” he said, ending with the slogan: #RevolutionNow.
