Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently discharged by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, has spoken out for the first time since her release from detention, expressing gratitude for public support while revealing the toll the ordeal has taken on her health, BlackBox Nigeria has confirmed.
In a recent Instagram post shared on her account @soft_commy, Emmanson thanked friends, supporters, and well-wishers for their prayers and love, confirming that she had been released from prison.
However, she noted that she is still in pain due to the treatment she received while in custody.
“I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give out my own version of the event,” she wrote.
“I really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless y’all.”
Her statement comes just days after the police formally withdrew all five charges against her, leading the court to strike out the case.
The incident, which took place on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, sparked widespread public interest after videos of her altercation with airline officials went viral.
She assaulted both the airline crew, security personnel at the aerodrome, and in the van while transporting to detention.
Stakeholders raised concerns, met with federal government on the issue and later, a criminal complaint withdrawal was made against her.
Though Emmanson has not yet disclosed details of what transpired, her message suggests she intends to eventually share her side of the story.
She ended her note with a declaration of faith: “THANK YOU MY GREAT GOD!!!”
Public reactions have been mixed, with many demanding justice for the alleged mistreatment, while others await the full context of the events that led to her arrest and lifetime flight ban which has been revoked earlier today.
