Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has revealed the surprising reason behind dropping the “Barrister” title from his name.

Speaking in a recent interview, K1 disclosed that he originally went by the name Wasiu Ayinde Barrister in honor of his musical father and mentor, the late Fuji legend Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

The name was a tribute to the man who pioneered the Fuji genre and guided K1’s rise in the music industry.

However, K1 later abandoned the “Barrister” tag and adopted Marshal, a name that was influenced by an official position conferred on him by the Federal Government.

“Unknown to many, I stopped using ‘Barrister’ because I was made a Special Marshal by the Federal Road Safety Corps,” K1 explained.

“It was a national recognition and I had to carry that identity. That’s how I became known as Wasiu Ayinde Marshal.”

Interestingly, the name transition mirrors a legacy of musical homage.

Just as K1 once bore the name of Barrister, his mentor had also paid tribute to his own by adopting the title Fuji Commander, a tribute to Commander Ebenezer Obey, making Obey a musical grandfather figure in K1’s lineage.

The singer’s clarification helps to dispel long-held misconceptions about his decision to drop the Barrister name.

Far from it, K1 insists that his respect for Barrister remains intact, and the name change was a matter of official honor and professional rebranding rather than personal distance.
