I removed subsidy to free our resources from unpatriotic elements – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained his decision to eliminate the subsidy on his inauguration day as President.

During his address on June 12 Democracy Day, Tinubu stated that he took this step to liberate the nation’s resources from the grip of unpatriotic individuals.

While acknowledging the hardships faced by Nigerians, he emphasized the necessity for citizens to make further sacrifices for the well-being of the country.

Tinubu also revealed that a select few had been benefiting from the resources allocated for fuel subsidy.

He stated, “It is for this reason that, in my inauguration address on May 29, I implemented the previous administration’s decision to remove the burden of fuel subsidy and channel the much-needed resources towards collective use, instead of being pocketed by a privileged few.”

“I understand the added burden this decision places on the masses of our people. I share your pain. However, it is a sacrifice we must endure to safeguard our nation from collapse and wrest our resources from the clutches of a few unpatriotic elements.”

“I have requested that you, my fellow citizens, bear this burden for the sake of our country’s survival. I assure you that your sacrifice will not be in vain. The government I lead will repay your trust and belief in us through substantial investments in transportation infrastructure, education, reliable power supply, healthcare, and other public utilities aimed at improving the quality of life.”
