I Remain Lagos State Speaker, Obasa Tells Colleagues Who Impeached Him

Impeached Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has insisted he remains the “authentic Speaker” of the Assembly, stating that his removal did not follow due process.

Obasa made this declaration on Saturday during a reception organized by his supporters at his residence in Joel Ogunnaike GRA, Ikeja.

Addressing his supporters, Obasa said, “I respect my colleagues in the Lagos State House of Assembly; they are my brothers and sisters. I respect them because I have spent the most important part of my life in that House. I am not afraid to be removed. What else am I looking for? I have served as Speaker for 10 years and have been a member of the House since 2003.”

Reaffirming his position, he added, “I am still the authentic Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly until the right thing is done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way, and I will not contest it. If you want to do that, do it constitutionally; follow due process.”

Obasa’s impeachment followed a motion moved by Honourable Femi Saheed, representing Kosofe Constituency II, and seconded by Honourable Aro Moshood Abiodun, representing Ikorodu Constituency II. The lawmakers cited several allegations of misconduct as the basis for the motion according to a report by BlackBox Nigeria

It was also disclosed that Obasa was in the Atllanta, United States when his impeachment was announced.

His removal followed allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office, which have been widely reported in the media.
