Naja’atu Muhammad, the campaign director of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has resigned barely a month before the general elections.
Muhammad who was also the Director of Civil Society in the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), initially announced her resignation in a letter dated January 19, 2023, addressed to the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
She made her resignation official in a statement on Saturday.
While stating her reasons for making the “carefully considered” decision, Muhammad mentioned that her values no longer align with party politics as political parties are clothes worn by politicians to satisfy their interests.
She said, “After much reflection and careful consideration, I have decided to part ways with party politics. I have come to the realisation that my values and beliefs no longer align with party politics.
“Our political parties have no ideological differences and are simply robes that politicians wear to serve their personal needs and interests at any given time. As a result of which we see politicians changing from one robe to another whenever it suits them.”
Muhammad further explained that “what is important at this point in time is the individual wearing the robe and not the robe itself” and referred to the “consolidated efforts of competent and patriotic leadership” as what the nation requires to solve the many problems facing her including insecurity.
She added that Nigerians needed to be aware of the consequences of their choices as a wrong choice could be detrimental to the development of the country.
“Nigerians must be aware of the severity of their situation after the dismal failures of leadership the country has experienced over the years. Nigerians must be aware of the consequences of their decisions and their choices.
“Therefore, restricting one’s choice to a single political party will be detrimental to the development of our country and our democracy,” the statement said.
