It appears the ongoing row between the immediate past Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo and his successor, Fatai Adeshina, better known as Akeweje, is getting messier after the latter made some shocking revelations.
In a recent interview with The Punch, Adeshina who was recently appointed to head the Caretaker Committee of the Lagos NURTW following a crisis rocking the union, alleged that a former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu influenced the emergence of MC Oluomo as the chairman of the transport body.
According to him, following the expiration of the 8-year tenure of Tajudeen Agbede as Lagos NURTW boss, he contested for the seat in 2019 and was almost pronounced as the new chairman.
Akeweje claimed that upon Tinubu’s intervention, he dropped his ambition and was promised the position of Deputy Chairman. However, to his greatest shock, he wasn’t offered any position despite his efforts to appeal to MC Oluomo.
He said, “Some days to the D-day when they were supposed to announce me as the NURTW chairman for Lagos, the chief of staff to the governor called me and told me that he and the governor had endorsed my candidacy, but Tinubu said they should give it to MC Oluomo. I told him there was no problem.
“He asked me what I wanted to do next and I told him that I was okay with anything the government wanted. He asked whether I wanted the deputy or treasurer position, and I said any of both was fine. He drafted a list of the state executive members to be announced and showed me that I was penned for the deputy chairman position. I agreed with the plan.
“However, on the day we were to be sworn in, my name was cancelled with a pen, not that they drafted a fresh list. I was not offered any position. MC Oluomo took away my job, hijacked my branch and my unit despite meeting me on this job.”
It would be recalled that MC Oluomo was suspended by the transport union’s national body over allegations of misconducts and insubordination in negation of the NURTW constitution.
Barely 24 hours after his suspension, Akinsanya was appointed to head the newly created Lagos State Parks Management Committee, a body established to oversee the affairs of the Lagos NURTW following a ban of the activities of the transport union in the state.
