A social media storm erupted on Friday evening after Silverbird TV Owner and a former Bayelsa Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and SIlverbird appeared to erroneously announce the death of former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, only to retract the claim hours later.
In a post on his X handle, Murray-Bruce initially shared a tribute message accompanied by Obiano’s photo, offering condolences and saying, ” I’m deeply saddened by the reported passing of my dear friend, former Governor Willie Obiano. He was a man of charm, courage, and commitment to his people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the good people of Anambra state. May his soul rest in peace.”
The post quickly went viral, prompting reactions of shock and grief across media platforms.
However, just an hour later, Murray-Bruce made a U-turn, posting, “Former Governor Willie Obiano is not dead!” without offering any explanation for the initial misinformation.
The retraction ignited criticism from users, many of whom accused the former senator of carelessness.
One X user reply read: “I told you not to fold or delete your initial tweet… Hope you don’t sue someone tomorrow when they falsely propagate news about your death?”
