How Nigerian Army Released 257 Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists 24hours Before Maiduguri Bomb Attack

The Nigerian Army yesterday released suspected members of the dreaded boko haram terrorists in commemoration of the 2017 Armed Forces Rememberance Day in Maiduguri, Borno State.

During the handover, the Head of Operations of the Military in the North East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Maj-General Lucky Irabor disclosed that the imprisoned suspects were released as part of celebration lined up for the Rememberance Day.

Terrorists Strike Again, Bomb University of Maiduguri’s Mosque 

The detainees were officially released to the State’s Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa, who represented the State Governor, Kashim Shettima at the ceremony held at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.

Barely 24 hours after the release, the mosque of University of Maiduguri was bombed during the early morning prayer in the institution.

Maj-General Irabor said the detainees have been thoroughly investigated and will also be placed on watch list of the Military even after their release.

He said, “After screening them, we found them clean, but we will ensure that they are monitored even after the release. The Army Day celebration have afforded us opportunity to free them to mark the occasion.”

In the keynote address read by Deputy Governor, on behalf of Shettima, he paid tribute to the fallen heroes who he said paid the ultimate price for the unity of the nation.

“We must be committed to ensure that the labours of our heroes past are not in vain. I appeal to all to contribute in catering for the family they left behind. I commend the Nigerian Military and other security agencies for restoration of Peace to Borno and the North East,” he said.
