How newly-wedded couple escaped Ondo massacre

The attack on St Francis Catholic Church in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Sunday, has sent shock waves across the nation.

BlackBox Nigeria had reported that suspected terrorists invaded the church during a service and shot at worshippers, leaving many dead and several others injured.

Since the news broke out, a viral picture of a newly-wedded couple who were said to have been killed during the attack has since went viral on social media. Some netizens had claimed that the duo — identified as Kelvin and Blessing — were in the church for thanksgiving.

However, the new bride has debunked the claims, saying she and her husband left the church before the attack.

“Those sharing my picture saying something happened to me and my husband, please nothing happened to us. It was after the thanksgiving at a church that I went home. Nothing happened to me and my husband,” she was quoted as saying by TheCable.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in a statement, had condemned the attack, describing it as “vile and satanic”.

On Sunday, Akeredolu also visited the scene as well as hospitals where the survivors of the unprovoked attack are receiving treatment, and vowed that the assailants will pay for their crimes.
