The Nollywood industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Chief Kanran, born Segun Akinremi, who passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 69— days to his 70th birthday.

As tributes pour in, a heartfelt interview has resurfaced, shedding light on one of the most tragic moments in his life.

In May 2025, just a few months before his demise, Chief Kanran appear on a program called Behind the Fame, where he recounted the devastating day he lost both of his wives.

He revealed that one wife succumbed to cancer in the morning, while the other died from an attack later that evening which rumors says it was a spiritual attack.

The two women resided in different locations, making the coincidence all the more tragic.

“There was a tragic incident that happened to me that always made me sad. I used to have two wives, but both of them died suddenly on the same day. One died in the morning, and the second one died in the night. One from cancer, the other from an attack. They lived in different places,” he shared.

This revelation has touched many fans and colleagues, highlighting the personal struggles behind the actor’s public persona.

Born into a religious family with his brother, his mother fondly called mummy G.O owned a C&S church in Ebutte-Meta where they all lived.

Another revealing fact by BlackBox Nigeria shows that the late Nollywood legend had a brother, Yemi Remi who is also an actor in the industry.

Segun, born Kehinde Olusegun Aderemi was a twin but he decided to choose ‘Segun Remi’ owing to his brother’s name in the industry.

Segun Remi was a senior apostle while his twin sister is a prophetess in the C&S movement.

Chief Kanran’s resilience in the face of such profound loss remains a testament to his strength and dedication to his craft.
