How Lagos East Assembly Members Spareheaded Removal Of Former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa
In a sudden turn of events, the Lagos State House of Assembly witnessed a sudden shift in power on Monday, 13th January 2025, when Honourable Femi Saheed, representing the Kosofe constituency 2, moved a motion for the removal of Rt. Honourable Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of the House.
The motion, which gained traction after a series of alleged misconducts were levied against Obasa, was seconded by Honourable Aro Moshood Abiodun, representing Ikorodu 2.
The duo members of the House of Assembly are from the Lagos East senatorial district, thereby signalling the quick impeachment process—First motion moved and seconded by the same members of the senatorial district.
The motion cited various accusations, including abuse of power and financial misappropriation, leading to a majority of lawmakers supporting the motion for his removal.
BlackBox Nigeria had previously reported on the brewing discontent within the Assembly, with numerous lawmakers accusing Obasa of failing to uphold the integrity of his office.
Following Monday’s vote, the Speaker’s removal marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Lagos State.
The removal of Obasa, who had held the position for several years, has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the timing and the underlying reasons behind the sudden move.
The removed speaker’s office has yet to issue an official statement, but sources within the Assembly suggest that further investigations into the allegations are imminent.
As the House moves forward with the transition, all eyes are now on Mojisola meranda who was immediately elected to occupy the seat and the potential impact this shake-up will have on the governance of Lagos State.
