How Lagos council boss is running affairs from Canada

In what has now attracted mixed reactions, the Chairperson of Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos State, Hon. Rashidat Omolola Essien is reportedly running the council’s affairs from Canada.

Essien, who was elected for her second term in office under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was said to have undergone a knee surgery in the North American country.

The Tribune reported that the 68-year-old left Nigeria for Canada on October 5, after the condition of her right knee got worsened.

In the last three months, she is said to have been conducting the affairs of the council, presiding over management meetings and approving vouchers via Zoom, a teleconferencing platform.

Quoting a source in the council, the newspaper also reported that Essien’s absence has adversely affected the activities of the council as all nine elected councillors have been rendered inactive.

However, when contacted, the Vice Chairman of the council, Hon Emilagba Jubril dismissed the claims, adding that the administration is running smoothly without hindrances.

“Everything is okay. We are operating effectively as we should and the council is running optimally without any rancour. There is no problem at the council,” he was quoted as saying.
