In a rather surprising development, Sadiq Ando, the abducted son of the convener of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Ango Abdullahi has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives seat in Sabon Gari Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Sadiq is one of the 61 persons still in captivity after bandits attacked and abducted passengers on board a train from Abuja to Kaduna on March 28.

Despite being in captivity, he won the PDP primary held on Sunday. The returning officer for the election, Mohammed Shafiu announced on Monday morning that Sadiq polled 28 votes to secure the ticket, ahead of his closest rival, Malam Sadisu Abdulhamid who secured six votes.

Though some publications have reported that Sadiq has regained his freedom, his father said he is yet to be released, while confirming his victory at the primaries.

“Yes, he did and he’s still not home,” he was quoted as saying by TheCable.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Ango Abdullahi, a former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, also said he prays and hopes that his son will be released soon.
