Jagun Jagun (The Warrior) emerged as the winner for the Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) at the 10th Edition of Africa’s Magic Viewers Choice Award held on May 11 at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
Jagun Jagun is a 2023 Netflix original epic Yoruba film produced by Femi Adebayo Salami and Euphoria360 Media. It was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami.
The movie received 10 nominations from the AMVCA, including Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) for Jagun Jagun, Best Director – (Adebayo Tijani & @topeadebayosalami), Best Lead Actor (Adedimeji Lateef), Best Supporting Actor (Ibrahim Yekeen, better known as Itele), Best Supporting Actress (Faithia Williams), Best Scriptwriting (Adebayo Tijani), Best Cinematography (Captaindeg), Best Makeup (Hakeem Effect), Best Art Direction (Tunji Afolayan), and Best Costume (Lola Awe).
Compared to last year’s edition of the AMVCA, Ageshinkole (King of Thieves), which was also produced by Femi Adebayo, Euphoria 360, and Anthill production, was nominated in nine categories, including Best Actor in a Drama, Movie or TV Series (Femi Adebayo), Best Art Director (Wale Adeleke), and the only category that won, Best Picture Editor (Sanjo Adegoke), Best Sound Track (Adam Songbird and Tolu Obanro), Best Make Up (Francisca Otaigbe), Best Writer (Yinka Laoye), Best Overall Movie (Femi Adebayo), and Best Director (Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo).
Jagun Jagun won the award for Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) and Best Costume (Lola Awe). Femi shared an appreciative post on his Instagram stating, “This award is dedicated first to Allah SWT, my team/production crew, my family, and to all of you, my beautiful fans that voted endlessly, to bring this award home. I’m super proud to win this award and promise to keep delivering bigger and better movies.”
