Hopeful Mikel Obi disappointed over debut draw
Captain of the Nigerian Super Eagles, John Mikel Obi yesterday debuted for his English Championship side, Middlesbrough but was left disappointed as his side couldn’t clinch the maximum 3 points.
Middlesbrough was forced a 1-1 draw by Newport Country in the FA Cup fourth round which left the Super Eagles skipper unhappy.
The former Chelsea midfielder who until recently played for Chinese side, Tianjin Teda was excited after making his debut but couldn’t hide his frustration following the draw which means there will now be a replay. Mikel was on for 62 minutes before he was substituted Adam Clayton.
“So happy to have made my debut today with Middlesbrough. Disappointed not to have won the game and move to the next round of the FA cup. But, we keep fighting and improving as a team together,” Mikel posted on his Instagram page.

Mikel Obi further told the Boro website that he was excited and hopeful for the future.
He said, “I thought the performance was good,”
“When you play these games, we were one up, we controlled the game and it’s one of those games where if you sit back you can get caught out and that’s what happened.
“The team played really well, it’s a good start for me and hopefully we can carry on from here.
“Today was good and hopefully I can get a few more games to get sharper and help the team a bit more.”
