The Obidient Movement has issued a stern warning to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, declaring him a threat to national unity and saying he would be held accountable if any harm comes to Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The warning follows a circulating video in which Governor Okpebholo allegedly threatened that Obi must not enter Edo State without prior notice.
The statement, released on Saturday by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications for the movement, described the governor’s remarks as unconstitutional and dangerous.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to move freely and reside in any part of the country,” the statement read.
Kazaure called the governor’s alleged threat a gross abuse of his office, emphasizing that Obi’s visit to the state was purely humanitarian, not political.
“This is not an isolated incident,” Kazaure added, referencing an earlier similar remark from the Governor of Benue State.
“Peter Obi was on missions of goodwill and charity, offering support to citizens failed by their state governments.”
The movement further cautioned that if anything were to happen to Obi, the Nigerian people and international community should know where to look.
However, with this issues at hand, it’s unclear whether Peter Obi is planning to make a visit to the state at any point of time in his humanitarian call.
