New York jury has convicted former US President Donald Trump on all charges related to falsifying business records, making him the first former US president to be criminally convicted. This verdict comes just five months before the election where Trump aims to regain the presidency.
The conviction follows a previous ruling in February, where a US judge ordered Trump to pay nearly $355 million for fraud and banned him from running businesses in New York state for three years. The latest verdict marks a significant milestone in Trump’s legal battles, although it does not prevent him from continuing his presidential campaign.
The conviction is a result of the hush-money case, in which Trump made secret payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford) and former Playboy model Karen McDougal to silence them about their alleged affairs with Trump before the 2016 presidential election.
