History made! 5 Nigerians set new Guinness World Record for longest reading marathon

After reading for 480 hours, a team of five Nigerians has set a new Guinness World Record for the “Longest Marathon Read Aloud By A-Team”.

The audacious attempt began at the Herbert Macaulay Library in Yaba, Lagos, on Wednesday, December 1, and ended on Tuesday, December 21 — as the group finally beat the current record of 365 hours and 39 seconds set in the Dominican Republic in July 2001.

The five record breakers, drawn from different geo-political regions in the country, are Maryam Abba Sadu and Zainab Wakil Mohammed from Bornu State, Doubra Yeri from Bayelsa, Preciouslight Ukachi from Imo State, Treasures-Olawunmi Bayode from Ogun State — who set a Guinness World Record for the “Longest Reading Marathon” in 2018, reading for over 120 hours in five days.

The quest, tagged “Read2Build”, is an initiative of Treasures-Olawunmi’s iRead Afrika Foundation geared towards raising N500million to be used to build 20 functional libraries in rural areas across the country.
