Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has etched her name in the Guinness World Records once again, this time for preparing the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing a staggering 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The feat, achieved in partnership with food brand Gino, took place last Friday at Victoria Island, Lagos, and was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records (GWR) on Monday.

Announcing the recognition on X, GWR posted:

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬.”

Ahead of the confirmation, the global record body had shown support for Baci’s attempt.

The statement says, “What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

Baci first rose to global prominence in May 2023, when she broke the world record for the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking 93 hours and 11 minutes in Lekki, Lagos. The feat, which captured worldwide attention, inspired a wave of marathon attempts across Africa.

Since then, the cooking marathon record has been surpassed twice, first by Alan Fisher of Ireland (119 hours, 57 minutes, 16 seconds) in October 2023, and later by Australia’s Evette Quoibia, who pushed it to 140 hours, 11 minutes, 11 seconds in February 2024.

With her latest achievement, Hilda Baci has once again spotlighted Nigerian cuisine on the global stage, reinforcing her status as one of the country’s most celebrated culinary ambassadors.
