Highlights From The Access Bank Lagos City MArathon (PICTURES)
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has come to an end with a French man, Abraham Kiprotich winning the race after running for 2hrs 15mins 4sec to win the star prize of $50,000.
The race is a yearly marathon competition fully sponsored by Lagos State Government in partnership with Access Bank plc, 7up among other sponsors. The race was started at the National Stadium and was terminated at the Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island area of Lagos.
The first Nigerian to cross the finish line, Illya Pam also won himself a cash prize of N3m and a brand new car courtesy of GAC Motors after covering the 42km race in 2hrs 27mins, 3mins earlier than his record in 2017 when he finished in 2hrs 30mins. He now holds the title in a row.
A surprise appearance was made at the race by one of Nigeria’s greatest football stars, Austin Jay Jay Okocha when he joined the athletes in the race for the fun of it.
Entertainers such as Sound Sultan, Mr Real (legbe legbe) among other invited star artistes were stationed at the finish lines to entertain both the audience filled with Lagos State Government officials and also the athletes that participated in the race.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his Deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule led other top government dignitaries to the event. Also leading officials of Access Bank plc was Mr Herbert Wigwe, who was also dressed in sport wears. In attendance at the event is also the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr Solomon Dalung.
