Kidneys are one of the most vital body organs and should be taken care of at all cost. However, you might have developed habits that are damaging your kidneys unknowingly.
It’s not too late to unlearn these habits. Here are five habits you need to quit immediately.
1. Holding your pee
Delaying the urge to pee is one of the habits that can damage your kidneys. The longer you delay peeing, the more bacteria stays in your bladder. This can increase your chances of getting kidney infection which is expensive to treat. Endeavor to visit the bathroom at the right time for the sake of your kidneys.
2. Not drinking enough water
Staying hydrated is beneficial to your kidneys as it helps flush toxins out of your system. Not drinking enough water also increase your chances of having kidney stones. Normalize the habit of drinking at least 8 glasses of water to avoid such kidney problem.
3. Overusing painkillers
Painkillers come in handy when you’re trying to kill that body ache, but overusing them can also be harmful to your kidneys. This is more dangerous if you already have kidney disease. It is better to never consume more than the prescribed amount.
4. Taking too much salt
Taking too much salt can cause damages to your kidneys. The sodium in salt overworks your kidneys by increasing the blood pressure and consequently harm them. Minimize salt usage, and if possible, go saltless.
5. Eating too much meat
Meat tends to generate high amount of acid in the blood which can be damaging to your kidneys and cause a condition called acidosis (a condition where your kidney strain releases acid faster). Resist the urge to consume too much meat. Instead, eat more vegetables and fruits which are healthier for your kidneys.
