‘He isn’t a man of God’ — Nigerians drag Tunde Bakare for declaring presidential bid

The serving overseer of The Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare is once again set to ditch the pulpit for the murky waters of politics.

Speaking at a virtual event on Saturday, the outspoken clergyman declared his intention to run for the office of the president in the 2023 elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his address, Bakare spoke on his presidential bid tagged ‘Project 16’, saying his ambition is based on a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by the average Nigerian.

“Project 16 is not just about me. It’s not just about the presidential ambition of any man. In any case, I do not have a self-generated ambition. What I do have is a vision of a new Nigeria that was birthed in me from childhood and an honest aspiration to serve as the 16th president of my beloved nation, Nigeria,” he said.

It would be recalled that Bakare was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2011 presidential elections under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

Meanwhile, the clergyman’s declaration which comes the same day with that of Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has set tongues talking on social media, especially on popular micro-blogging platform Twitter as many Nigerians berate Bakare for masking his political ambitions using the name of God.
