In a country where hardship and the high cost of living have led many to despair, one traditional ruler is not just whining but showing the path others should follow by actively engaging in farming and promoting education.

Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá-Orangun in Osun State, has embraced a hands-on approach to leadership, tilting the land and nurturing the minds of the youth in his community.

In a post shared on his Facebook account, the King, who once enjoyed tilting golf balls, revealed his newfound love for a different kind of green plain: “As I trade golf clubs for a farmer’s tools, I find myself embracing a new way of life in Oke Ila Orangun. Farming is not just a livelihood, but a beautiful sport and a form of relaxation. The farm has become our classroom, where we learn valuable lessons about hard work, patience, sacrifice, suffering, and the importance of community.”

But agriculture is not the only area where Oba Adedokun Abolarin is making an impact. His commitment to education is evident in his efforts to uplift the youth in his community. Early in the month, he shared the inspiring success of his students at Abolarin College, a school he founded to provide free, quality education to indigent children.

In just ten years, the school has transformed the lives of many, nurturing future leaders who are not only intellectually sound but also skilled in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Oba Adedokun Abolarin, who was installed as the Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá on December 8, 2006, hails from the Obasolo Ruling House, one of the three ruling houses in Òkè-Ìlá.

A highly educated professional, he holds a law degree, a master’s degree in International Relations, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, all from Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly the University of Ife).

Before his installation, Oba Abolarin was the principal partner of Dokun Abolarin & Co., a law firm that served as Company Secretary to various corporations. He is also an academic authority on Nigerian government and politics, having extensively researched and written on the country’s political landscape.

As a monarch, Oba Adedokun Abolarin chose the reign name “Aroyinkeye I,” meaning “one who finds honey to tend the title.” His reign has brought hope and excitement to the citizens of Òkè-Ìlá-Orangun, especially those in the diaspora, who eagerly anticipate the development he promises for the city and its surrounding areas.

Oba Abolarin’s vision for his community extends beyond his royal duties. He founded Abolarin College, a school dedicated to fighting poverty through education. The school provides free education, including boarding facilities, to children from poor homes who cannot afford schooling. The students are not only academically sound but are also groomed to be independent, multilingual, and skilled in various trades, including agriculture.

The Òràngún’s efforts have not only empowered the youth of his community but have also set a standard for what is possible when a leader is truly committed to the welfare of his people.

Oba Abolarin’s approach to leadership is characterized by inclusivity and innovation. He celebrates the “renegades” in society—those who challenge norms and forge their own paths.

In his view, these visionaries are the driving force behind progress, and their unconventional thinking is essential for creating a better future. He calls on his community to embrace diversity and to support one another in the pursuit of common goals.

As Oke-Ila-Orangun enjoys a season of abundance, with bountiful harvests and thriving markets, Oba Abolarin attributes the community’s success to the hard work and dedication of its people. He recognizes the importance of supporting local farmers and ensuring that the wealth of the land is shared among all. This season of prosperity, he believes, is a symbol of hope and a reminder of the potential that lies within the community.

Looking ahead, Oba Abolarin remains focused on his mission to uplift Oke-Ila-Orangun. As Abolarin College celebrates its tenth anniversary, he reflects on the journey thus far and the challenges that lie ahead.

He acknowledges that building a nation is a complex task that requires the collective effort of all citizens, not just the government. Yet, he is optimistic about the future and is determined to continue his work of empowering rural youth and enlightening the future.

Oba Adedokun Abolarin’s legacy is one of service, education, and community development. Through his tireless efforts, he has transformed Oke-Ila-Orangun into a thriving community where every child has the opportunity to succeed.

His leadership is a shining example of what can be achieved when a monarch is not just a figurehead but a true servant of the people. As the Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá, Oba Abolarin has not only upheld the traditions of his ancestors but has also paved the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for his people.
