HabariPay’s Squad, the payment fintech subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO), has announced the dates for its annual social coding competition—Squad Hackathon 2.0.

Set to take place from March 13th–15th, 2025, at the GTCO Training Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the hackathon is projected to build on the success of last year’s inaugural event.

The competition, designed to foster creativity and problem-solving among emerging tech talents, will challenge competing teams to develop scalable digital solutions using Squad’s advanced APIs. These solutions should aim to address both local and global economic and social issues.

This year’s event, themed “Finclusion Revolution: Unlocking Access, Empowering Communities”, will focus on using technology to overcome barriers to financial services in underserved communities.

Students from universities across Nigeria will join forces to tackle the issue of financial inclusion while also honing their IT skills.

Hackathon participants will engage in team-building activities, brainstorming sessions, and solution development, while showcasing their innovation to a panel of judges.

In addition to the grand prizes—₦5 million for first place, ₦3 million for second place, and ₦2 million for third place—outstanding participants will also be offered opportunities to join Squad’s Hackademy, gaining access to mentorship, job opportunities, and learning resources.

Eduophon Japhet, Managing Director of HabariPay, emphasized that this initiative is in line with Squad’s mission to empower young innovators.

He said, “At Squad, we believe the next big breakthrough in technology will come from passionate young minds eager to solve universal challenges.

“Our goal is to create a culture of innovation and offer a platform for the next generation of tech leaders in Africa.”

Registration is now open for teams of four. However, participants are expected to not only compete for prizes but also make a lasting impact in the field of digital payments in Africa.
