Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO Plc) has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development and cultural heritage in Africa with the announcement of its continued sponsorship of the prestigious NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament.

The 2026 edition of the iconic tournament will take place at the Lagos Polo Club, Ikoyi, from Tuesday, January 27 to Sunday, February 15, drawing top polo teams, enthusiasts and dignitaries from Nigeria, across Africa and beyond. Recognised as one of the oldest and most respected polo tournaments on the continent, the event is expected to once again position Lagos as a hub for elite equestrian sport and lifestyle experiences.

This year’s tournament will see high-level competition for some of polo’s most coveted honours, including the Majekodunmi Cup, Independence Cup, Open Cup, Silver Cup and Low Cup. Beyond the action on the field, organisers promise a blend of competitive polo, refined social engagements and a polo-inspired lifestyle showcase, designed to appeal to both long-time fans of the sport and first-time spectators. For a wider audience, the tournament will also be livestreamed, ensuring global access to the spectacle.

Speaking on GTCO’s role as main sponsor, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, described the tournament as a celebration of values that align closely with the brand’s identity. According to him, the Lagos International Polo Tournament goes beyond sport, highlighting teamwork, discipline, fair play and excellence, while also projecting Nigeria and Africa to a global audience.

“Our longstanding sponsorship reflects our belief that sport can amplify opportunity, foster meaningful connections and deliver world-class experiences,” Agbaje said, adding that the tournament reinforces Africa’s growing presence on the world sporting stage.

Over the years, the NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament has earned a reputation not just for equestrian excellence, but also for its deep cultural significance within Africa’s sporting history. GTCO’s continued backing of the event underscores its broader commitment to creating platforms that unite communities, promote shared values and drive lasting social impact.

As anticipation builds ahead of the first match in late January, all eyes will once again turn to Ikoyi, where tradition, competition and modern African excellence will meet on the polo field.
