Group holds cycling competition to raise awareness about bad roads in Ikorodu

The second edition of RYE cycling competition was held on Saturday in the Anibaba area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

The community-based contest, which was organised by RYE Consulting International, featured a one-kilometre cycling race.

Speaking with BlackBox Nigeria, the organiser, Olamilekan Dada said the competition aims at promoting cycling as a sport and recreation for young people in Ikorodu.

He added that the initiative was also designed to draw the attention of the authorities to the state of the bad roads in Anibaba Community.

“Beyond awareness, we want to identify talents and help grow them to greater heights. We can have home-grown record breakers in cycling too,” he said.

The race kicked off at Eketunde Street through Anibaba Street to Omini Street, then Orewaye Street back and finished at Eketunde Street.

At the end of the competition, Quadri Alataniyo emerged top, while Rasheed “Celeb” Balogun claimed the second position, and Lawal Bamidele finished third. On the other hand, Adeoye Odubayeje had the fastest lap.

Medals and cash prizes were then presented to the victorious contestants.
