With pomp and pageantry, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, HRM Oba (Engr.) Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa was received in Majidun-Ogolonto community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, on Wednesday, June 22.
The monarch visited the community as part of his ongoing visitation to communities under his jurisdiction.
The Baale of Majidun-Ogolonto, Chief O.Y.O. Fatola led other stakeholders of the community to welcome the monarch and his entourage.
Addressing the elated indigenes and residents of Majidun-Ogolonto, the Olisa of Ipakodo, High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa who anchored the proceedings explained that the purpose of the visit was for Oba Shotonwa to familiarize with the community and listen to their problems.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Baale thanked the monarch for the visit and assured him of the support of the people of Majidun-Ogolonto for his leadership.
One of the community stakeholders, Pastor Ajayi, spoke on the need for bumps on Oba Sekumade amid its ongoing construction as well as drainage systems to avoid incidents of flooding.
He equally seized the opportunity to thank the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson for facilitating a road project in the community.
Mr. I. B. Raheem, the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman in Ikorodu West, decried the indiscriminate activities of dredging companies in the area and their lack of corporate social responsibility to the host communities.
In response, Oba Shotonwa said he would ensure that the demands are addressed as soon as possible, promising to call on the concerned parties.
Also present at the event were representatives of the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA — the Supervisor for Agriculture, Social and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Muyideen Yusuf Olatunji; the Councillor representing Ward B, Hon. Lion Batife and the Chieftaincy Officer.
