Government agencies have provided initial explanations regarding the road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), preliminary findings suggest the crash was caused by excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking, which led to Joshua’s vehicle colliding with a stationary truck. The FRSC noted that such driving behaviour is a major contributor to road fatalities in Nigeria.
However, the Ogun State Police Command gave a slightly different account, stating that the accident might have been the result of a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to veer off and crash. Police sources told journalists that investigations are still ongoing, but they suspect the blown tyre triggered the loss of control.
The incident, which occurred on Monday claimed the lives of at least two people. Fortunately, Anthony Joshua survived and is reportedly in stable condition. He has yet to issue a personal statement.
