Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a major salary increase for security personnel at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
The governor, who met with hospital workers in the middle of an industrial action, announced that 65 non staff security officers will now be placed on a monthly pay of ₦80,000. Before the intervention, the guards had been receiving ₦18,700.
Makinde also directed that the personnel, who were previously outsourced, should be integrated into the system as ad hoc staff of the hospital.
In addition to the wage adjustment, the governor approved an increase in the monthly subvention of the teaching hospital by ₦35 million. He further promised to settle outstanding obligations, including promotion arrears and payments relating to the minimum wage.
The governor said the steps were necessary to improve the welfare of workers and ensure stability in the operations of the state owned health facility.
