The Governor-elect and incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has applauded the role played by President Muhammadu Buhari in the September 19th governorship election in the State.

Governor Obaseki who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, polled a total of 307,955 votes to defeat his close rival, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress at the State gubernatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Saturday. He acknowledged the non partisan role played by President Buhari which he said propelled the wish of the great people of Edo State.

He said, “The great people of Edo State have spoken, loud and clear. Thank you, President Muhammadu Buhari, for defending our democracy and allowing INEC and the security agencies to perform their constitutional functions without interference.”

Announcing the results of the Saturday governorship election, INEC’s Returning Officer for Edo State, Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh had declared Obaseki winner after polling 307,955 votes ahead is close rival of the APC, Ize-Iyamu who polled a total of 223,619 votes. Obaseki was declared the winner and returned elected.
