Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown in the state’s 2026 governorship election.

Governor Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday during a high-level meeting with political stakeholders in Osogbo.

He revealed that he had formally registered as a member of Accord on November 6, 2025, but chose to make his declaration public after due consultations.

“My decision is based on deep reflection and the urgent need to align with a platform that prioritizes the welfare of the people. Accord represents the values I hold dear, service, accountability, and progress,” Adeleke stated.

The defection comes amid internal disputes within the PDP and growing uncertainty over Adeleke’s chances of securing the party’s ticket for re-election.

Sources within the PDP have cited unresolved tensions between the governor and national leaders, prompting his exit.

Adeleke was received by top leaders of Accord, who hailed his entry as a “defining moment” for the party both in Osun and nationally.

His move is expected to significantly strengthen Accord’s political base, giving the party a rare opportunity to compete from a position of incumbency.

Political analysts say Adeleke’s exit from the PDP is a major blow to the opposition party, which has now lost two governors in the space of one week with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara also defecting to the APC.

With the 2026 election drawing closer, Adeleke’s shift to Accord introduces a new dynamic in Osun politics, positioning the once-minor party as a serious contender.
