Governor Adeleke Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Create Chaos in Osun State

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has raised an alarm about a planned scheme aimed at creating unrest in the state.
In a press statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, 16 February, 2024, Governor Adeleke accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, of spearheading a plot to enforce a non-existing court judgment concerning local government councils.
Adeleke claims that the plot involves a collaboration between Oyetola, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Osun State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the State Commandant of the Civil Defense Corps.
The governor expressed his concern that these individuals are set to take illegal action in Osun, starting from Monday, February 17, 2025, following the directive from Oyetola.
“I regret to inform Mr. President and the public that Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has concluded arrangements to incite mayhem in Osun State, starting from Monday.
“He is issuing illegal directives to security agencies to enforce actions that go against the constitution, simply because he is the nephew of Mr. President,” Governor Adeleke said.
“I am calling on the nation to be aware of this before innocent lives are lost or harmed.”
Governor Adeleke emphasized that the controversy stems from an attempt to reinstate council chairmen who were legally removed before he assumed office.
According to Adeleke, the sacking of the council chairmen was based on a subsisting court judgment, and not an executive order issued by his administration, as has been falsely claimed by some parties.
He stated that there is a push to reinstate these officials using a different court decision that lacks any binding or consequential order.
“I want to make it clear that the council chairmen were removed before I was sworn in as Governor of Osun State. These false claims that the chairmen were removed by my executive order are simply untrue,” Adeleke added.
Governor Adeleke also praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
He expressed his confidence that the President would never support actions that threaten the stability of any state or jeopardize the safety of its citizens.
“This is a clear attempt to create chaos in Osun State, and I believe that the rule of law and democracy will ultimately prevail. I urge all relevant authorities to resist this unlawful and anti-democratic move,” Governor Adeleke concluded.
