The week-long maiden edition of Ipakodo Day 2022 climaxed with glitz and glamour on Saturday, October 9, 2022 at Ebute Ipakodo Ferry Terminal, Ikorodu.
The Sekumade of Ipakodo, HRM Oba (Engr.) Basiru Aremu Sotonwa welcomed dignitaries, indigenes and residents of the over 500 years old kingdom amongst whom were Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, who was also the Chairman of the day, represented by Otunba Saheed Ibikunle; Prof. Kunle Ade Wahab, former Special Adviser on Budget Monitoring to former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Agbaakin of Ikorodu, Comrade Ayodele Elesho, former commissioner for Information, Lagos State; Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, former commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State; Chief Monsor Olowoshago, Publisher, Oriwu Sun; Honourable S.O.B Agunbiade, Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly and member representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The Sekumade of Ipakodo, who was joined at the occasion by several royal fathers like: the Adegboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiu Orimadegun Kasali; the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Richard Ogunsanya; Obateru of Egbin, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdul-Akeem Oyebo; reiterated that “Ipakodo kingdom has risen from its decades of slumber into socio-political consciousness. We are now ready to take our rightful place in the scheme of things among comity of communities in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State and Nigeria at large”.
Some prominent personalities who have contributed to the development of Ipakodo were honoured with awards at the occasion. Amongst those honoured are Dr. Taiwo Hassan, Medical Director, Ikorodu General Hospital; Honourable Babajimi Benson, Member Federal House of Representatives, Representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency; The Chairman, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju etc.
Princess Adeola, a sensational Juju music singer serenaded the guests with scintillating music, while the Ndigbo community paid homage to Oba Basiru Sotonwa with a beautiful cultural display. The joyous crowd was also entertained by performances from Igunnu and Agbaku cultural groups.
