Ghana Abolishes Visa Requirements for All African Nationals

Ghana has eliminated visa requirements for citizens of all African nations, becoming the fifth African country to implement a visa-free policy, following Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin.

The policy is expected to boost travel, trade, and tourism, as announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo during his final address to parliament before stepping down next week after eight years in office.

The Ghana Immigration Service has yet to announce the official implementation date.

Recall that In 2023, Kenya made a similar move under President William Ruto, who eliminated visa requirements for African travelers.

Kenya replaced the visa process with a $30 electronic travel authorization (eTA) system, requiring applicants to wait up to three days for approval.
