German police have arrested 25 suspected members and three supporters of a far-right terrorists organization across the country on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government.

In a statement, the German federal prosecutor’s office said an estimated 50 people were suspected to have been part of the group called Reich Citizens, Reichsbürger movement, founded no later than November 2021, who were plotting to overthrow the government and replace it with their own order.

About 3,000 officers conducted the raids on Wednesday at 130 sites across 11 German federal states against adherents of the so-called Reich Citizens, Reichsbuerger movement.

The Prosecutors said members of the movement were suspected of “having made concrete preparations to violently force their way into the German parliament with a small armed group.”

The plotters were said, to include members of the extremist Reichsbürger, Citizens of the Reich movement, which has long been in the sights of German police over violent attacks and racist and antisemitic conspiracy theories as they were heavily armed

Meanwhile, the suspects were German citizens and were detained on suspicion of “membership in a terrorist organisation” while three others allegedly supported the organisation including a Russian citizen.

“It is suggested that these people have believed that there is a deep state operating in Germany, which is antithetical to Germany’s interests and that this Russian national with others may have tried to approach the Russian Federation for some assistance,”
